Carla Hall first sashayed into our hearts on Bravo's "Top Chef" and "Top Chef: All Stars," serving up more than just delicious food—she shared her beloved mantra: always "cook with love." She firmly believes that food is the ultimate connector, and she weaves this philosophy into every dish, every project, and every interaction. For seven fabulous years, Carla brought her sunshine and warmth as the co-host of ABC's Emmy-winning lifestyle hit, "The Chew." But she's still a fixture on the small screen! You can catch her currently flexing her judging muscles on Food Network's seasonal shows like the "Thanksgiving, Holiday and Halloween Baking Championships," as well as helping kitchen strugglers on "Worst Cooks in America."
From Cookbook Queen to Picture Book Author
Carla's acclaimed cookbook, Carla Hall's Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration (2018), landed on "Best Cookbook" lists nationwide and snagged an NAACP Image Awards nomination. Looking ahead to 2024, she's set to receive a high honor: she will be named Grande Dame by Les Dames d'Escoffier, a lifetime achievement award recognizing her extraordinary impact on the world of food, beverage, and hospitality.
In November 2021, she expanded her literary talents with her debut picture book, Carla and the Christmas Cornbread. This heartwarming story, illustrated by Cherise Harris, is inspired by her Nashville childhood and celebrates the joy of family traditions—new and old—and even includes a special, child-friendly cornbread recipe!
A Dash of Philanthropy and a Heap of New Projects!
When she's not in the kitchen or on camera, Carla is a dedicated advocate for children, actively participating at the board level with wonderful organizations like 4H, Pajama Program, GenYouth, and Helen Keller International. She also lends her time and voice to promote numerous other nonprofits, including The James Beard Foundation, FEED America, and The Smithsonian Institutes. And now, for the exciting news! Carla is grabbing the bull by the horns and diving into the digital world by co-hosting a new YouTube web show called "Chewed Up" with two of her friends from The Chew! Plus, fans, get your appetites ready—more cookbook writing is soon to be coming out!
